Airport Transfers with Golf Clubs, Skis and Oversized Luggage
Published 1 October 2026
When booking an airport transfer with golf clubs, skis or oversized luggage, give the operator the item’s packed dimensions and your complete passenger and bag count. Request confirmation that the allocated vehicle can carry the load. An airline’s acceptance of sports equipment does not prove that it fits a transfer vehicle.
Long or bulky equipment changes the booking even when only one or two people are travelling. The question is not simply how many bags you have, but how those bags can be loaded alongside passengers and ordinary cases.
Measure the packed equipment
Measure the travel case or protective bag you will actually use, including handles, wheels and external pockets. An uncovered golf bag may be smaller than the padded travel cover that carries it to the airport.
- Golf clubs: give the travel bag’s length, widest point and approximate packed weight.
- Skis or snowboards: give the case length and the number of equipment bags.
- Musical instruments: describe the rigid case and any handling requirements.
- Other large items: state whether they can fold, separate or be stacked.
Photographs can help explain an awkward shape, but include measurements too. State if an item must stay upright or cannot bear other luggage on top.
Count the ordinary bags alongside the equipment
“Two golf bags” leaves out the suitcases, cabin bags and other belongings travelling with them. Write one inventory for the whole party so the operator can assess the complete load.
For example, two passengers with two covered golf bags, two checked cases and two backpacks create a different requirement from two passengers carrying only golf equipment. This example explains the information to supply; it does not confirm that a particular vehicle can carry that combination.
Manchester Airport advises checking luggage allowances with your airline because permitted sizes vary. Make that check alongside your vehicle-storage enquiry, keeping the airline and road-transfer requirements separate.
Ask which vehicle and configuration will suit the load
The Airport Transfers 365 fleet guide includes estates, people carriers and minibuses. Its estate category mentions golf trips and luggage-heavy journeys. That gives you a starting point for an enquiry, not a guarantee that every sports bag fits.
Ask about the actual allocated category, any configuration needed and whether all passengers can travel with the equipment safely stored. Do not assume a passenger seat can simply be used as extra storage or that a roof carrier will be supplied.
If a particular model or accessory is essential, get it confirmed in writing. The fleet lists example models “or similar”, so a model photograph alone should not be treated as a storage specification.
Get the full price confirmed
Explain the equipment before asking for a final quote. A larger vehicle or a different arrangement may change the fare. Ask whether any agreed equipment charge, airport access charge or additional stop is included.
If the inventory changes after booking, send the updated details promptly. Adding another ski case or golf bag can change the load enough to require a reassessment. Availability of a larger vehicle should be checked before the collection day.
Prepare the equipment for collection
Have the cases packed and ready at the agreed pickup point. Keep labels and essential travel documents accessible. Tell the operator if collecting the equipment involves stairs, a narrow entrance or a different loading location.
Allow time for loading as well as the road journey. For the return, explain that equipment may need collection from an oversized-baggage area and ask how to report a delay. Agree the meeting instructions instead of assuming the driver will know when the equipment has reached you.
Sports equipment transfer FAQs
Can a saloon carry golf clubs?
It depends on the packed size, other luggage and the vehicle. Supply the full inventory and ask for confirmation rather than relying on the number of passengers.
Should I count a ski case as one suitcase?
List it separately with its length. A long equipment case has different storage needs from an ordinary suitcase.
Can I book a vehicle with a roof box?
Ask whether that specific arrangement is available. Do not assume a roof box or carrier is included with any category.
What if my equipment arrives late at baggage collection?
Contact the transfer operator using the booking details. Check the agreed waiting arrangements and keep the team updated.
Confirm storage before your airport journey
Send the team your equipment measurements and luggage inventory. Once the suitable arrangement is agreed, use the airport transfer booking form to reserve your journey.
